The PADI open water course consists of three sections: academics, confined water, and open water dives. In Colorado, many students do the academics and confined water together and then take a referral to a vacation resort for the open water dives. The open water dives can, however, be done locally. Here are the differences in selecting a private session with me:

  • Academics go beyond the materials provided in the book. Additional handouts and explanations provide greater understanding of scuba principles.
  • Confined water dives focus heavily upon buoyancy and trim. Students completing the confined water dives usually have buoyancy skills more consistent with veteran divers.
  • Open water dives continue the emphasis on buoyancy and trim so that divers feel completely confident that then can dive fluidly, efficiently, and safely in horizontal trim.
